National Company
Closet & Storage Concepts is a home organization and storage products company headquartered in Southern New Jersey just outside Philadelphia. Founded in 1987, the company began franchising in 2000. The Charlotte location is an independently owned and operated business opening in March 2001 as the 2nd franchisee in a network. They are now the largest operation in a network of close to 30 locations, with sales in 2006 even exceeding the corporate facility.
Charlotte Operation
Closet & Storage Concepts in Charlotte was started and is currently owned by Robert Coover. Robert ran several national businesses during a 15 year corporate career and brought a wealth of business acumen to the Closet & Storage Concepts enterprise. With a strong sales and marketing background, he was looking for a business where he could incorporate his entrepreneurial interests. "I had the opportunity to sign up with several of of different national closet franchises and even traveled to California to research them. I chose Closet & Storage Concepts because the business model was more efficient with lower overhead and less encumbrances from the corporate franchisor. Also, being the 2nd franchisee gave us a lot of influence with the national franchise that we used to benefit our local operation in Charlotte." Robert's sister, Kristen Coover Soyars, now runs the day-to-day operations. Kristen moved to Charlotte in the Summer of 2001 specifically to work with Closet & Storage Concepts and help grow the business efficiently. Today, the business employs 20 people and operates four two man installation crews. They service an approximately 50 mile radius around Charlotte with plans to expand further in the near future.
Variety of "Solutions"
Home organization has become a very hot area for consumers with people spending more money on their homes and looking for ways to manage stress in their daily lives. In response to this demand, the home organization industry is now full of a myriad of new and unique solutions to help consumers store, access and keep track of their growing amounts of "stuff". While most people think of the master closet first, there is expanded focus on kid's bedrooms, the pantry, home office, the garage and the newest hot area --- the laundry or mudroom. Closet and Storage Concepts provides solutions for all these rooms in the house. According to Coover, "The great thing about our company is everything we produce is custom cut, so we can come up with solutions for the most unique space. In fact, some of our best projects have been ideas that our customers dream up". To see a sampling of some of their storage solutions, visit the Charlotte showroom at 635 Pressley Road or take a look at the website.
The Design Process
The closet or storage design process is one of the more interactive activities you'll participate in as you build or upgrade your house. If you are in an existing home, one of Closet & Storage Concepts' professional closet designers will meet with you in your home and ask you a series of questions to find out your specific needs and wants. If it's a master closet you're working on, they'll measure your clothes, count your shoes and find out what's driving you crazy about your current configuration. They will then produce designs, both an overhead and front view of your new closet. They even provide a comparison of your current clothes to the amount of space they can create with the new layout. For new construction, the designer can work off plans in our showroom or walk the construction site with you to determine your specific needs in each room. The design process really is unique. In fact a recent customer commented, "The closet process was the most rewarding for us out of all the areas in our new house. The cabinetry and workmanship was excellent and both my husband and I felt a real ownership of the final product because we were so involved in the design".
What Sets Closet & Storage Concepts Apart From The Rest
The employees have really driven the success of the Closet & Storage Concepts. From the moment you call for an appointment you sense a higher level of caring and service from Rebecca or Kristen. The designers you meet with next are trained to ask probing questions but their most important trait is the ability to listen. While this seems like a simple concept, not every company takes the time to listen to your needs. The result is the initial designs you get from Closet & Storage Concepts are much closer to what you want and the overall design process is streamlined. As mentioned previously, all our materials are custom cut for your job in our Charlotte factory. The company has recently invested over $150,000 in new production equipment to further enhance the quality of the finished product. With all this being said, the single biggest facet that sets Closet & Storage Concepts Charlotte apart from other companies are the installers. It starts with their background as carpenters and the fact they are full time employees of the company. Next, they use cabinet finishing techniques such as scribe molding and caulking to tie in the closet systems to the walls in your house that are never perfectly square. Lastly, and most important of all is each installer's friendly personality and conscientious nature. It is not easy to find and retain tradesmen like these but Closet & Storage Charlotte has found a way. Says Kristen Soyars, "I continue to be amazed at the proactive feedback we receive from our customers about out installers. At least once a week a home owner or job superintendent will call the office to tell us how nice and helpful the installers were on their job".
Why We Know You'll Be Satisfied
Closet & Storage Concepts sends a formal Customer Satisfaction survey after each completed job. The survey asks for feedback from all areas of the closet process from initial contact with the office to final installation. According to Soyars, "We receive a very high percentage of surveys back, more than 50%. We channel this feedback directly to each staff member who was in contact with the customer". The results of these efforts are outstanding. Almost 75% of the company's total sales are from referrals or previous customers. With a track record like this you know you will be satisfied if you choose Closet & Storage Concepts for you next organizational project.
